Word Clouds

Now that we know more about audio tools, how to make a book and how to use Google maps for some cool ideas for SL classes, here is a new tool for some strategies on reading text. New text and old text, introduce new vocabulary and review old words. Create word cloud pages!

Here is how you can do it:

  1. First select a text in your language - let's say something you want to read,  I add some links below.
  2. Copy a chunck of that text.
  3. Open the word cloud page at: http://www.wordle.net/
  4. Select the Create your own wordle link
  5. Paste the text in the box and click on "Go"
  6. A word cloud will show up. The cloud will show in big fonts the words that are used most often in your text. This means your students can view what are the words that are most important to understand the text. (see this sample page link: sample)
  7. Or you can use this page (you can print it and publish it) to ask students to go and check their dictionary to find the meaning of these key words before they use the text for reading or research.
